Dr. Wahl was born in North Korea and escaped with the help of a U.S. serviceman. She moved to the U.S., enrolled in university and obtained a Ph.D. in social psychology. After obtaining her doctorate, she could not get an appointment to a university faculty and grew bitter at the laisse-faire marketplace that would leave a person with her qualifications unemployed. She ended up in China as a consultant on education programs for prisoners. She became friendly with Boris and let him know she was not happy with her assignments. He invited her to join the Elysia community. Boris figured she would be excited by Ariana’s vision of a community of transformed people dedicated to the ideals of peace and cooperation. He was right: Dr. Wahl appreciated the opportunity to channel her expertise to benefit a cause that she could believe in so completely.
