The Style Matrix represents the universe of all possible conflict styles. Although the strategy for a particular conflict may blend several style vectors, every strategy can be located at a point that is within the four corners of the style matrix. You can use the style matrix to generate and evaluate alternative strategies for all the parties to a conflict.
The Conflict Style Matrix was adapted from the work of Kenneth W. Thomas, Conflict and Conflict Management in the Handbook of Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Edited by Marvin Dunette, Chicago, IL Rand McNally, 1976

Our personal styles vary with relationships and situations. Still, each person favors a particular style. The styles for the characters in the Elysia conflict have been distributed around the matrix so that all possible strategies are represented. Each character seeks to advance the interests of their group with a different personal strategy.
