EDITORIAL
Our Commitment
| Although simulations are a departure from the reality beat of journalists, we report simulation news as if it is reality. We invite course instructors to join our editorial staff and together we promise to bring you the news as it happens, using the best scholarship and consistent with the highest standards of journalistic integrity. When we have opinions and we do have them they appear in these editorials. |
NEWS
The Negotiation Process
Negotiation is a sequential process or a journey. Conflict Lab has organized the journey into twelve steps. When players have accomplished the objectives of a step, an issue of the Conflict Chronicle reports on the resulting news and the developments that set up the situation for the next step. Reviews of books, movies and Web sites provide helpful resources for each step. Editorials offer opinions and coaching. Breaking news is reported by news bulletins. See an outline of The 12 Steps of the Negotiation Process.

Instructors As Characters
An unusual feature of Conflict Lab is that instructors participate as characters. They join the editorial staff of the Chronicle to select or create material for the news, reviews and editorials. This role provides instructors with an opportunity to coach the players through the steps in the negotiation process in a way that leaves the players in control of their destiny and encourages maximum learning and fun - for the players.

WIRE NEWS
The editors may select a wire story that is not directly about the simulation events but may have an indirect bearing on the development of simulated events or may suggest clues to the players. These stories may be real or imagined.
