KNOWN BUGS AND WORKAROUND
CHAT ISSUES

Occassionally, the chat preferences become corrupted.

PROBLEM: Chat screen has turned black.

SOLUTION:

Windows PC Instructions: Clearing Flash Shared Objects folder
 
1. Quit your internet browser.
 
2. Under the Start Menu, click on 'My Computer'. Next, click on the 'Tools' menu at the top of the window. Select 'Folder Options'. Select the 'View' menu tab. Under Advanced Settings check 'Show Hidden Files and Folders'.
 
3. Next Go To: My Computer/Local Disk(C:)/Documents and Settings/YourName User/Application Data/Macromedia/Flash Player/#SharedObjects

('Your Name' in the line above is the name of the user that you log into the computer with.)
 
4. Drag the #Shared Objects folder to the Trash or Delete it by right clicking on the #Shared Objects folder and selecting Delete.
 
5. Now open your browser and log on the the simulation. Your chat should be displaying its default settings.

Macintosh Instructions: Clearing Flash Shared Objects folder
 
1. Quit your internet browser.

2. Open the Users folder on your hard disk and open your 'Home' folder which is probably titled after your first name.

3. Next, open 'Library', then open 'Preferences', and then 'Macromedia'.

4. Inside the 'Macromedia' folder you will see a folder called 'Flash Player'. Drag this to your trash. Now open your browser and log on the the simulation. Your chat should be displaying its default settings.


DISCUSSION AREA ISSUES

If you can't log in try quitting your browser and attempting to re-log in to the console area. If you are still experiencing difficulty, see instructions below to 'Clearing Your Browser's Cache'.

Windows PC Instructions: Clearing Your Browsers Cache or 'temporary internet files'

For Internet Explorer:

1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Click on 'Tools' tab at the top of the window.
3. Click on 'Internet Options'.
4. Click the 'Delete Files' Button under the Temporary Internet Files section of the window.

For Firefox:

1. Open Firefox.
2. Click on the 'Tools' tab at the top of the window.
3. Click on 'Options'.
4. Click on the 'Privacy' tab and at the bottom of the window there is a 'Cache' section.
5. In the Cache section, click on the 'clear' button.

Macintosh Instructions: Clearing Browser's cache on a MAC

For Safari:

1. Open Safari.
2. Click on the "Safari" menu item and select "Empty Cache."

For Firefox:

1. Open Firefox.
2. Click on the 'Firefox' menu at the top of your screen and select 'Preferences'.
3. Click on the 'Privacy' tab and at the bottom of the window there is a 'Cache' section.
4. In the Cache section, click on the 'clear' button.
